CEC Develops 3G Mobile Secretly
£¨PdayResearch Sep 16,2002£©
China Electronics Corporation (CEC) is developing 3G mobile phone secretly
and will expectedly release sample models before the end of next year.
The news is proved by Sun Jingtao, the President of CEC's subsidiary
CEC Sino, as the corporation is developing 3G mobile phone. The corporation
has great investment on 3G phone R&D though China has not released
3G license to date.
At present over 100 3G licenses were released and several hundred 3G
equipment agreements were signed all over the world, but 3G mobile phones
are in operation only in Japan and North Korea, which can access Internet
with high speed, and be used for film, screen phone and mobile shopping.
Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson are taking great efforts on 3G phones
in attempt to take a leading position in the future mobile communication.
CEC Sino is reportedly developing two 3G mobile models, one that supports
European WCDMA and another that supports Datang's TD-SCDMA. There are
three 3G standards, the remaining is Qualcomm's CDMA2000.
Intel and UT-Starcom are taking part in the development of Chinese 3G
mobile phones. "We chose the two corporations as partners since
UT-Starcom has good base stations and soft switch equipments and Intel
has good chipsets, " said Sun.
CEC became the biggest independent mobile R&D center globally after
it acquired Philips's Mobile R&D Base. The corporation is integrating
the power of 600 engineers in France, USA, North Korea and China to
develop state-of-the-art mobile technology.
