Summary |
Abstract After 3 years, 3G markets struggle out from the downturn in 2004 finally. Currently, most of the technical issues have been resolved, more and more 3G devices are available in the market, and many operators are deploying 3G trial networks. 3G has satisfied the requirements for commercial use. By May 2004, 25 operators in 17 countries or regions have provided commercial WCDMA services, and there are 20 operators on WCDMA trials. By May 2004, 73 operators in 40 countries or regions have provided commercial CDMA2000 1X services. And 9 operators in 6 countries or regions have provided commercial CDMA2000 1xEV-DO services, and there are several countries or regions in the stage of trials. For the second half year 2004, operators will further commercialize their 3G services, and a series of 3G phones at prices of 300-400 US dollars will come into the market. Obviously, it will boost the 3G service markets for personal consumers, and we believe the 3G markets would take off in 2005. This report comprehensively analyzes the 3G markets and 3G players, so it has been divided into two parts, respectively named "3G Markets" and "3G Players". "3G Markets" researched the evolution paths to 3G networks, the main 3G standards, the 3G industry environment, and provide the forecasts for the 3G device markets as well as 3G service markets. Additionally, "3G Markets" described the trends of 3G developments and the status of 3G developments in 40 countries or regions. "3G Players" analyzed 37 operators, 29 infrastructure manufacturers, 26 terminals providers, 39 parts manufacturers, 17 test equipment providers, as well as 45 software/application providers. In those analyses, "3G Players" focused on what the player produced, who purchased the player's products, etc.
