中国教育行业下的子行业包括幼儿教育、义务教育、高中教育、高等教育等行业。按照接受教育儿童的年龄阶段，幼儿教育可划分为早期教育和学前教育两个阶段，前者的年龄为 0-3 岁，而后者的年龄在 4-6 岁之间。

　　2007年全国共有幼儿园12.91万所，比06年减少0.14万所，在园幼儿（包括学前班）2348.83万人，比06年增加84.98万人。幼儿园园长和教师共95.19万人，比06年增加5.37万人。
